Impactful support to Brazil, India and Nigeria

SEforALL has a global mandate to accelerate progress on the energy transition in emerging and developing countries. We have built strong partnerships with the governments of Brazil, India and Nigeria to help them meet their energy transition goals.

Why Brazil, India and Nigeria?

We focus on supporting countries in different regions of the Global South. We also focus on impact at scale, which is why our work with Brazil, India and Nigeria is so significant.

Combined they account for roughly 23% of the world’s population. So, what happens in these three countries in the coming years will make or break the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Our long-running support to G20 Presidencies paved the way for our partnerships with Brazil and India. We helped them use their G20 Presidencies as a platform to rally the global community behind just energy transitions, and we continue to support them on their domestic energy initiatives.

The Government of Nigeria engaged us to develop its ambitious Energy Transition Plan (ETP), which has evolved into a strong partnership for implementing the plan and closing the country’s energy access gaps.

Our focus

These three countries are each at different stages of development and have their own unique energy challenges. Our work is tailored to their local context and needs but has a common focus to end energy poverty, combat climate change and power livelihoods.

Brazil

We are supporting the Brazil G20 Presidency and COP30 Presidency on Just Energy Transitions. As part of our ongoing partnership, Brazil has selected as the first milestone moment of their COP30 agenda, the 2025 SEforALL Global Forum taking place in Bridgetown, Barbados from 12-13 March.

India

In 2023, India showed its leadership by rallying G20 member countries to commit to a just and equitable energy transition, including the goals of tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling the rate of energy efficiency improvement by 2030. SEforALL continues to work with the Indian government on its initiatives established during its G20 Presidency, among others.

Nigeria

Having developed Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan in 2020, we now have a dedicated team in Abuja focused on realizing the plan’s aims of universal energy access by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2060. With over 85 million people living without access to electricity, Nigeria is also a target country of the World Bank and African Development Bank-led Mission 300 million initiative, which aims to electrify 300 million African by 2030, and which SEforALL supports.
