The 2017 Sustainable Energy for All Forum

The third Sustainable Energy for All Forum took place at the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn, New York from April 3 – 5, 2017.  Over 1,000 high-level representatives from government, business, civil society and international organizations from 110 countries came together under the Forum theme “Going Further, Faster – Together” towards global energy goals and progress on Sustainable Development Goal 7.

Over 60 sessions were held during the three days, with conversations and activity focused around the urgency and action needed to get us on track to achieve our goals with CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All, Rachel Kyte, telling the crowd on the opening morning: “business as usual is not good enough. We need speed and scale.”

A wealth of information that supported the need for urgency was released during the Forum, including the latest Global Tracking Framework report, produced by the World Bank and the International Energy Agency as part of the Sustainable Energy for All Knowledge Hub. The report showed the current pace of progress on three global energy goals – access to electricity, renewable energy and efficiency – is not moving fast enough to meet 2030 targets and that the rate of people getting access to electricity is beginning to slow down. FACEBOOK LIVE INTERVIEWS

Facebook, one of our media partners at the Forum, hosted a very popular Facebook Live studio at the event – broadcasting live conversations and interviews to those watching online. Headline speakers and partners visited the studio to share their inspiring stories of success across all different subjects related to energy and closing the access gap. From gender empowerment and new data platform announcements, to solar technology demonstrations and focused policy discussions on the role of Africa, all Facebook Live interviews are available to watch again on the Sustainable Energy for All Facebook page.
