Sustainable Energy For All - Scotland’s Contribution

News
In 2012, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon asked the First Minister of Scotland to support the Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) initiative, believing that Scotland has a significant contribution to make because of its leadership on renewable energy and climate change. Scotland is now working towards delivering on that agreement, focusing on two specific areas of need where its strengths lie: policy support, and capacity-building. In July 2014, the Scottish Government hosted the European Launch of the UN Decade of SEforALL in Glasgow, as an offline event to the Commonwealth Games. This was a highly successful event and has cemented Scotland’s close collaboration with the SEforALL Global Facilitation Team to take forward Scotland’s contribution to SEforALL. UN Sustainable Energy For All – Scotland’s Contribution lays out what the Scottish Government has achieved to date in this important area of activity, and what it intends to do over the coming years. This includes its most recent announcement of £1.2m funding for two further off-grid renewable energy projects in Malawi, both of which have a particular focus on developing sustainable and replicable community-level models.
