SEforALL targets inspire European Student Energy Summit
The European Student Energy Summit took place from June 19-20, 2014 at the University of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland. As one of the Regional Student Energy Summits, it occurred simultaneously with student energy events in Africa (Cape Town), North America (New York) and Latin America (Mexico City), and linked European students with 1200 other students around the world.
The theme of the 2014 Regional Student Energy Summits was "Powering the Future." The Summit challenged multidisciplinary postsecondary students from across the continent to both question and understand the key energy issues within their region, and to further comprehend them within the larger context of the existing and future global energy dynamics.
At all the regional Student Energy Summits SEforALL launched the 2014 – 2024 UN Decade of Sustainable Energy and presented SEforALL and its targets on energy access, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
In addition a session dedicated to SEforALL was hosted in Aberdeen entitled "Innovation Jam": an interactive workshop to brainstorm about the ideal future city. SEforALL co- lead this session which was built around the three SEforALL targets. About 70 students excelled in in their subsequent presentations with conclusions very similar the SEforALL Advisory Board Committees, particularly regarding the "Energy Efficiency Accelerators" (e.g. focusing on buildings, transport, lighting and district energy for future cities).
Student Energy representatives are keenly interested in SEforALL and all nexus dimensions and would like to cooperate with SEforALL further.
The next International Student Energy Summit (ISES) will be hosted 2015 in Bali, Indonesia.
