High Level Event on Scaling up Finance for Sustainable Energy Investments

Ballroom II, Hilton Hotel Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Monday, 13 July 2015, 4:00 - 6:00 pm   UN’s Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD3) in Addis Ababa will run from 13-16 July in Addis Ababa, gathering senior leaders from government, business, international organisations and NGOs. Governments will negotiate and agree on measures aimed at supporting the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda.   What? Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) will be contributing to the UN’s Third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa with a High-Level Side-Event on Financing Sustainable Energy for All, backed up by a detailed expert report with concrete recommendations on how to scale up investment in the sector.   Speakers for the SEforALL high-level event include: H.E. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General, United Nations H.E. Jim Yong Kim, President, World Bank Group H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President, Liberia (tbc) H.E. Alemayehu Tegenu, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Ethiopia H.E. Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iceland   The event will see the release of a report by the SEforALL Advisory Board’s Finance Committee on Scaling Up Finance for Sustainable Energy Investments, which identifies concrete ways to increase crucial private-sector investment by a potential $120 billion a year through innovative financing structures. The report also recommends ways to improve the pipeline of suitable projects, particularly in developing countries.   According to SEforALL’s latest estimate, investment of at least $1 trillion per year will be needed from the public and private sectors to achieve the goal of sustainable energy for all by 2030 – three times current financing levels.   Where?
