Clean, affordable energy lets women thrive

Clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels can dramatically cut exposure to toxic cooking smoke that kills more than four million people every year, mainly women and children.

Reliable electricity for health facilities can power light and basic equipment that make the difference between life and death in childbirth, and run refrigerators for vital drugs and vaccines.

Women, who are most at risk, stand to gain most from solutions like these, but whole communities benefit.

Freed from the onerous chore of finding firewood, women can spend their time on more productive tasks. Women entrepreneurs are playing an active role in building new market models for clean, affordable energy.
