SEforALL to advocate for accelerated action on climate finance at COP29

The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024, is a pivotal opportunity to accelerate action on the climate crisis.

Energy is at the heart of the climate challenge – and key to the solution. With global temperatures hitting record highs, and extreme weather events affecting people around the globe, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) will use COP29 to advocate for greater action and investments to close energy access gaps, increase commitments on just energy transitions and accelerate clean energy development. To achieve our objectives, we will showcase innovative solutions such as the Energy Compacts championed by UN Energy and SEforALL.

A key focus of COP29 will be on finance, as trillions of dollars are required for countries to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the worsening impacts of climate change. All eyes will be on the negotiated outcomes of the newly established National Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG) – the successor to the USD 100 billion commitment on the Paris Agreement, which ends in 2025. At SEforALL, we will use COP29 as a key moment to call for greater investments to meet the developing world’s growing demand for renewable energy and to accelerate a clean energy transition.

As the host of the SDG7 Global South Pavilion, SEforALL, together with its partners will provide – for the fourth consecutive year – a vital hub for discussing and showcasing how to unite global efforts on energy, climate and development.

The SDG7 Global South Pavilion will bring together governments, partners, and other stakeholders from developing regions; uniting those who require resources to transition equitably with those who have an interest in the opportunities the transition presents.

We plan to host global leaders, including Heads of State, in engaging sessions covering topics of utmost importance to a just and equitable energy transition.

The SDG7 Global South Pavilion is located at pavilion number: G12a in the Blue Zone at COP29 and accessible to everyone with accreditation for this area. Our doors are open to all visitors.
